Oh, old Pharaoh
Moses asked you, “let my people go.”
But, you turned a deaf ear,
Ten plagues fell on every house and borough.
The people found out
That you were neither god nor savior
And your power was far from thorough.
Oh, new Pharaoh
After decades of misrule, and
Many calamities to endure;
The people are fed up, and
Have risen to tell you, “to go.”
The people have spoken,
In a loud and clear voice.
The system is broken, and
Pharaoh really doesn’t have much choice.
Pharaoh must leave now
And spare Egypt unnecessary pain
For far too long;
He peed on their feet
And told them it was rain.
No amount of fear-mongering
Would force the people to give up their right
To think for themselves and claim
The freedom that is no longer out of sight.
It was a long struggle in the making
Into this uprising, the people didn’t rush
Tunisia was the trigger
That made tyranny and democracy to clash.
The time is gone
Where Pharaoh could keep democracy at bay
Many ways to peel off an onion
But the peoples’ revolt is the non-violent way.
Egypt is safe for democracy, and
Democracy is safe for Liberty square; but
Pharaoh’s chariot must first be towed away.
The Egyptians are not asking
Too much from the rest of us
Only a message that said, “Yes You Can!”
